Throw the book at soneone
○○に本を投げる
「○○を厳しく罰する」といった意味の表現。
何で本を投げつけるんのかは謎です。
でも英語圏でthe bookって言うと、やっぱり聖書なのかな？
それとも六法全書的な話？
確かに物理的に痛そう。
それが正しい使い方かはさておき、「処罰」のニュアンスはありますね。
本を粗末に扱うのは、それはそれで罰せられると思いますけど
